Info about The Schizophonics
Garage rock band from San Diego, California, formed in 2009, consisting of husband and wife Pat Beers (guitar, lead vocals) and Lety Beers (drums, backing vocals), with a revolving door of bassists (those listed here are credited as members on various recordings).
The band was started by Pat as "The Schitzophonics". The early lineup included bassist Jim Accardi. After his departure, Pat and Lety recorded a demo CD which they sold at shows. They also co-founded [l=Ship Records (5)]. In 2013, with bassist/backing singer Tom Lord in the lineup, the Schitzophonics toured Spain as openers for [a=El Vez] ([a=Robert Alan Lopez]) and, along with [a=Diana Death], served as the backing band for his "Punk Rock Revue". After their first single, "Can't Take It", came out on Spanish label Munster Records, they dropped the "t" from their name. A second single, "Put Your Weight On It", came out on San Diego label Ugly Things in 2015. Also that year, the Schizophonics, Lopez, Diana Death, and [a=Brian Reilly] formed a Little Richard tribute band, [a=The Little Richards], releasing an LP and a single. The Schizophonics and Diana Death also backed El Vez on his single "Liz Renay" (released a few years later, in 2019).
After Lord left, the band went through several temporary bassists including Kyle Hoffman, [a=Adam Gimbel], and John Falk. Falk took part in some recording sessions with them until Brian Reilly joined the band. In 2017 the Schizophonics released the EP [i]Ooga Booga[/i] on Pig Baby Records and their first LP, [i]Land Of The Living[/i], on Sympathy For The Record Industry. Both releases have contributions from multiple of the band's bassists. Reilly departed the group; moving forward, Pat would play bass on the band's recordings while they would have a revolving door of friends in the role for live shows and tours, including [a=Blake Lindquist], Takumi MacIntyre, [a=Otis Barthoulameu], [a=Paul Ryu], [a=Stephen Rey], and [a=Sarah Linton]. In a 2018 interview, Lety estimated that about eight different bassists had come and gone from the lineup.
In 2019 the Schizophonics released the album [i]People In The Sky[/i] on Pig Baby, followed in 2020 by a single consisting of two cover songs, the MC5's "Black To Comm" and Roxy Music's "Remake Remodel" (also on Pig Baby). Their third full-length, [i]Hoof It[/i], came out on Pig Baby in 2022.
The Schizophonics have won several San Diego Music Awards, being named Best Hard Rock Act three years in a row (2013 to 2015), Best Live Performer in 2015 and 2019, Best Rock Act in 2017 and 2019, Best Indie/Alternative Artist in 2024, and winning Best Rock Album in 2020 for [i]People In The Sky[/i].
