Info about Nena

German New Wave / synthpop band, active from 1982 to 1987. Fronted by singer Gabriele "Nena" Kerner (see [a546203]), the group also featured Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen (keyboards), Carlo Karges (guitar), Jürgen Dehmel (bass) and Rolf Brendel (drums). In 1984 they had an international hit with the end-of-the-world fantasy 99 Luftballons, but were unable to capitalise on its success. However, the hit has proved an evergreen, and in 2002 Nena went flying again.
