Info about Muhamed Brkić Hamo

Muhamed (Hamo) Brkić was born in Vlasenica, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Yugoslavia, in 1955. He showed a talent for music very early on. As a boy, still in elementary school, he was considered an excellent student and participant in various school performances, and was a member of the school choir. He showed his greatest talent for drums. As a first-grade high school student, he became a member of the school's VIS SIGMA 4, which had its first performance on 4 February, 1971. There he performed as a drummer. Because of the lack of guitar players, in the third year of high school he switched to playing guitar and has been performing as a guitarist ever since.

When he went to study in Sarajevo, he met many Sarajevan musicians and soon began singing and playing gutiar for the group Treća Smjena (Third Shift), which was active at the Student Dormitory in Bjelave and Neđarići. This was the beginnings of Brkić's professional musical career. They performed played in various places across Bosnia & Herzegovina and Croatia including Banja Luka, Jajce, Sarajevo, Mostar, Slano and Crikvenica. The group operated until 1982 and after finishing school, everyone went their separate ways.

Later, he performed with various musicians who came to Vlasenica such as Suad (Sutko) Jusić and Brano Trifković along with many other musicians from Beograd, Serbia.

After the start of the Bosnian War, as part of the greater Yugoslavian conflict, Brkić moved to Tuzla in July 1992 where he connected with local musicians. In December the same year, he participated in the Studio MAT production project Bosno Moja, Jabuko (My Bosnia, My Apple). That patriotic album was released by Croatia Records.

In 1993, he started playing with Ekrem (Soso) Hadžić and formed the duet Hamo & Soso. Shortly after, they released the album Na Obali Drine (The Banks of the Drina) with songs of a patriotic nature.

In 1995, they recorded covers of sevdalinkas using only guitars. They also recorded the song Samo Je Duša Ostala (Only the Soul is Left), which was a great success. In the meantime, Brkić recorded vocals in a project for the Srebrenica enclave with writer and guitarist Nedim (Braco) Mulalić. The album was released under the name Srebrenica Tugo I Utjeho (Srebrenica, Sorrow and Comfort).

After the war, the duo Hamo & Soso recorded a CD of original songs, which was published by the then most prestigious publishing house, IN TAKT. In August 2005, the duet stopped performing together. Brkić performed alone until 2013 when he left for Sweden, where he still lives today.
