Info about Soundgarden
Formed during 1984 in Seattle, Washington, USA, Soundgarden was one of the early bands to record for the seminal [l=Sub Pop] record label. Along with the likes of [a=Green River], [a=Melvins] and [a=Skin Yard], Soundgarden is generally regarded as a founding father of the 'grunge' genre. Though much of their work had a more hard rock / metallic nature than the likes of their latter contemporaries [a=Pearl Jam], [a=Mudhoney], or [a=Nirvana]. From a metallic standpoint, their peak was the 1991 album '[m=11394]', with the more recent albums showcasing more of an alternative rock leaning to the band's sound (1994 produced their highest selling single, "[m=54941]"). The band parted ways amicably on April 9th 1997 to pursue other interests. Notably drummer Matt Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998, and vocalist Chris Cornell released his first full-length solo album in 1999, before joining forces with the musical-core of [a=Rage Against The Machine] to form the band [a=Audioslave] in 2001.
At precisely midnight on January 1st 2010, U.S. EST, Chris Cornell posted on his Twitter and Facebook: "The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!" On May 18th 2017, around midnight, vocalist Chris Cornell was found dead in MGM Grand hotel room after a show in Detroit. On November 8th 2025 Soundgarden (the surviving members, inc. original bass player and founding member [a=Hiro Yamamoto]) were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The band's fan club & merchandising entity used to be named: [a=Knights Of The Soundtable].
