Info about Year Long Disaster

American Hard rock / Stoner band from Los Angeles, active from 2004 to 2011.

The group was initialy comprised of frontman Daniel Davies on lead guitar & vocals, Rich Mullins (Karma to Burn, Speedealer) on bass, and Brad Hargreaves (Third Eye Blind) on drums. Drummer Rob Oswald and guitarist Will Mecum from [a=Karma To Burn] also joined in 2010 (Rob replacing Hargreaves on drums & Will joining as a second guitarist).
[a=Daniel Davies], lead guitarist, singer, and son of [a=Dave Davies] from UK rock pioneers [a=The Kinks], was born in London and spent his first nine years of life around the world with his father's band. Daniel can be seen as an infant in Susan St. James' arms on an episode of Saturday Night Live, where she introduces his father's band. Daniel relocated from London to Los Angeles with his family when he was thirteen years old. Three years later, his parents divorced, and Daniel moved in with his neighbor and godfather, movie director [a=John Carpenter]. Daniel stayed with the Carpenters until he graduated from Hollywood High School. He then went out on his own to play music. For three years, he took low jobs and failed random drug tests for even more menial employments before walking into a Hollywood grocery shop to buy vodka. It was there that he met bassist [a=Rich Mullins (2)]. Mullins had been in Los Angeles for four days when he met Davies. Mullins had recently relocated from Holland and was developing a "gorilla-sized" drug habit when he met Davies in Pavilions' alcohol section. Mullins was a founding member of West Virginia's instrumental hard rock band [a=Karma to Burn]. Karma to Burn had three albums out on Roadrunner Records, toured the world extensively, and opened for bands like Metallica and Pantera. Mullins left Karma to Burn to join the Dallas, Texas band [a=Speedealer]. It was a futile attempt to physically distance himself from his addiction. After nearly seven months, he was bandless and homeless, abandoned by Speedealer on a street corner in San Francisco. From there, he flew back to Holland in another weak attempt to physically distance himself from his addictions. A few weeks before meeting Davies, he was persuaded by some Dutch friends to bring a CD he had recorded in Holland to some industry contacts in Los Angeles. He landed in Los Angeles with the intention of staying for only one month. Within a week of meeting Daniel, they were inseparable pals living in a one-bedroom apartment in Laurel Canyon, drinking two fifths of vodka daily and consuming as much drugs as their other buddies could buy. After only a month of 'friendship,' Daniel and Rich approached Music Cares Foundation for treatment with their addictions. They were placed in CRI-Help rehabilitation. They spent a month there together. They then spent six months at a sober living halfway house. They ultimately returned to the world sober in December 2003. Eleven months later, Daniel and Rich saw drummer [a=Brad Hargreaves] perform live live at the Scene Bar in Glendale with a band called "Hours and Minutes". Impressed by his musicianship, they obtained his phone number and asked if he didn't mind 'jamming'. They were unaware that Brad was already a member of [a=Third Eye Blind], a multi-platinum-selling rock band that had, coincidentally, just portrayed the Kinks on the NBC series American Dreams. When Hargreaves learned that Daniel's father's name was Dave Davies, he decided to try out a few practices. The trio quickly bonded, and "Year Long Disaster" was formed.
