American jazz and blues tenor saxophonist, born July 12, 1916, in Lexington, Tennessee; died October 5, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia (age 74). Nicknamed "The Man," and frequently credited as "Sam (The Man) Taylor" or "Sam 'The Man' Taylor."
Worked with [a=Scatman Crothers] (late 1930s), [a=Cootie Williams], [a=Lucky Millinder] (early 1940s), [a=Cab Calloway], [a=Ray Charles], [a=Buddy Johnson], [a=Louis Jordan], [a=Big Joe Turner], [a=Ella Fitzgerald] and many others. Active session saxophonist in New York in the 1950s. In the 1960s, led the Blues Chasers. In the 1970s, active in Japan.
