Daniel Dumile Thompson (July 13, 1971 – October 31, 2020), also credited as [a=Daniel Dumile] and [a=Daniel Thompson (4)], was a hip hop recording artist, rapper, and producer best known as [a=MF Doom], usually stylized as MF DOOM. He was known for his metal mask, “super villain” stage persona, intricate rhyme style, and sample-based production.
Dumile was born in London, England, to a Trinidadian mother and Zimbabwean father, and was raised in Long Island, New York. Although he grew up in the United States, he remained a British citizen and never became a U.S. citizen. He began his career in 1988 as [a=Zev Love X], co-founding [a=KMD] with his younger brother [a=Subroc]. After Subroc’s death in 1993 and the end of KMD’s initial run, Dumile withdrew from the music business for several years before re-emerging in the late 1990s as [a=MF Doom].
